There is that thing where you hold your breath until the next good thing happens to you before you can celebrate -don’t do it.

If you dare stay with me to the end, I will propose to you another option to consider.

You see, those thrills from a win of the moment wear off very quickly; and if you have patterned your life that way, you have to constantly manufacture moments to maintain it. Needless to mention, that is an exhausting way to live.

Eventually, your internal fervour dries up and along with it the inspiration that drives creativity, motivation and focus. We can only go so far in life with this manufactured inspiration before we need a fresh dose of the real thing.

Life, unfortunately, is designed in such a way that its peak moments are only breaks in the mundanity of day-to-day living. To sustain inspiration, therefore, we need more than these peak moments. We need to discover the sweet thrills embedded within the fabric of time’s ordinary passing and live in them.

The Bible in Psalms 1 describes this as a state of delight, tied to a consciousness of God’s law and unbroken fellowship with God. You may never have heard of this but, the presence of God is man’s natural habitat where he functions best: in it, he is inspired, motivated and focused. A man in unbroken fellowship with God carries radiance in their spirit and overflows with both joy and peace. Event or no event, trouble or no trouble, you could never tell the difference.

“They are like trees planted along the riverbank, bearing fruit each season. Their leaves never wither, and they prosper in all they do.” -Psalms 1: 3. What a perfect representation of this state of being!

So, you need not hold your breath until the next good thing happens. Get into a personal and intimate relationship with God and you can always have something good to be glad and joyful for. Talking with God about any and everything will thrill and satisfy you more than life’s momentary peaks ever will. You will experience mental, emotional and physical rest (God knows we need this in our time!).

It will give you an audacity and zest for life that will make people call you mad- which will be well within their rights because that kind of peace, the Bible describes it as the kind that surpasses all human understanding -Philippians 4:7
